Alie is the head book buyer at the Brookline Booksmith. She loves mysteries (the psychologically more intense the better), great fiction (like Middlesex and Poisonwood Bible) and cookbooks. She is also obsessed with crossword puzzles.

With a well-read toddler to keep busy, Alie has begun to focus on children’s books, including board books like Gossie by Olivier Dunrea, and picture books like The Story of Ferdinand and llama llama mad at mama.

I was drawn into this wonderful book immediately and couldn’t put it down. A complex and original mystery with characters to match. Lisbeth Salander is worth getting to know — she is now on my favorite characters list — and thankfully, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is the first of a trilogy, so we can get to know her better!

I loved this insightful and original mystery novel set in Saudi Arabia. The characters battle over generational, gender, and religious differences while trying to solve the murder of a young woman in the desert. Original, well-written, and thought-provoking. A great read.”

One of the most fabulous and original main characters I have ever read. Paddy Meehan stays with you long after the last page — she is someone everyone should have the pleasure to meet. The mystery is not bad, either! I highly recommend Field of Blood by Denise Minabr
